The DIRS is responsible for the training of junior researchers in the field of denomination-oriented Islamic theology as well as the academic education in the various areas of Islamic intellectual disciplines (Quran, Hadith, Islamic philosophy, mysticism).

Study Programme
The DIRS offers a one-subject Bachelor track, consisting of compulsory and elective subjects. The compulsory subjects are Arabic 1-4 as well as lectures and seminars within the subject area of scripture basics, theory of religion, and social action. In the first four terms one attains basic knowledge of the Arabic language and a wide base of basic knowledge in the Islamic-religious studies. The fifth and sixth term are characterised by a deepening of the thematic areas and the language skills.

This study path focusses on themes that address traditional scripture basics, religious norms and methodology, different schools of Islam and religious instruction, religious practice, cultural history and present-day theological questions. Furthermore the students attain the neccessary referential and technical language skills to be able to read and understand basic arabic source texts. The study doesn't relate to one special orientation within Islam – instead the various orientations are addressed and discussed.
