Economics of the Middle East (EMEA) is a unique Master’s programme designed for students who want to acquire a solid foundation in economic analysis in combination with specific knowledge about the economies of the MENA region. EMEA is jointly offered with the Lebanese American University (LAU) and was designed reflecting our experience with the successful Master’s programme ‘Economic Change in the Arab Region’ (ECAR). EMEA is supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

Study Programme
EMEA students will spend two semesters in Marburg and one semester at the LAU in Beirut. Students spend their fourth semester in the MENA region for writing their Master’s thesis. The programme places a strong focus on graduate-level economics as well as introductory and specialised MENA economics.
A number of scholarships by the DAAD will be available for selected students. In addition, DAAD scholarship holders will receive support for German and Arab language training.

Admission is possible without a scholarship on a self-financing basis.
For a programme start in October 2013, scholarship applications can be handed in until 26 May 2013. Self-financing candidates can apply until 15 July 2013.
